Job summary

Matchtech is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance in Wimborne to provide leadership, stability and continuity during a period of change. You will take ownership of day-to-day finance, ensuring a smooth month-end and supporting the broader finance team.

This hands-on role requires a proactive manager who can drive improvements in finance operations, with strong focus on controls, reporting and forecasting throughout the interim period.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
• Proven ability to stabilise finance teams during periods of change.
• Experience leading month-end, forecasting and budgeting processes.
• Experience in a project-based environment and hands-on leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the finance team across AP, AR, Project Accounting and Management Accounts.
• Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
• Review and approve journals, reconciliations and month-end reporting.
• Manage the annual budgeting process and monthly forecasting cycles.
• Analyse actual performance against forecast and budget, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Oversee payroll approval.
• Support the rolling 15-month forecast.
• Review existing finance processes and implement improvements where appropriate.
• Provide leadership, stability and direction to the finance team during an interim period.
• Ensure robust financial controls and reporting standards are maintained.

Overview

An opportunity for an experienced Interim Head of Finance to join a well-established business based in Wimborne. This role has been created to provide leadership, stability and continuity whilst the business goes through a period of change.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring a smooth month-end process, supporting the wider finance team and driving improvements across finance operations following a period of change within the team.

This is a hands-on leadership role rather than a heavily strategic position, requiring someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in the detail when needed.

Candidate Profile

• Experienced Head of Finance, Financial Controller or Finance Director level contractor.
• Strong track record of managing month-end and financial reporting processes.
• Comfortable operating in a hands-on environment and getting involved in the detail.
• Proven experience stabilising teams and improving finance functions during periods of change.
• Strong business improvement and process improvement experience.
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Candidates must be from from a project-based environment.
