Job summary

Matchtech is seeking an experienced Interim Head of Finance to join the team in Wimborne on an initial minimum six-month contract. This hands-on leadership role focuses on stabilising the finance function during a period of change and ensuring robust controls.

You will own month-end, budgeting, forecasting, and payroll approvals, manage the finance team, review journals, and drive process improvements while remaining operationally involved in the detail.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
• Experience leading finance teams and stabilising finance functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the finance team across accounting, FP&A and management reporting.
• Own month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
• Review and approve journals, reconciliations and month-end reporting.
• Manage annual budgeting and monthly forecasting cycles.
• Analyse actual performance against forecast and identify risks/opportunities.
• Oversee payroll approvals.
• Support rolling 15-month forecast and cash flow planning.
• Review current finance processes and implement improvements.
• Provide leadership and direction during the interim period.
• Ensure robust financial controls and reporting standards.

Interim Head of Finance

Day Rate: £500 - £650

Overview

An opportunity for an experienced Interim Head of Finance to join a well-established business based in Wimborne. This role has been created to provide leadership, stability and continuity whilst the business goes through a period of change.

The successful candidate will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring a smooth month-end process, supporting the wider finance team and driving improvements across finance operations following a period of change within the team.

This is a hands-on leadership role rather than a heavily strategic position, requiring someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in the detail when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the finance team across AP, AR, Project Accounting and Management Accounts.
• Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
• Review and approve journals, reconciliations and month-end reporting.
• Manage the annual budgeting process and monthly forecasting cycles.
• Analyse actual performance against forecast and budget, identifying risks and opportunities.
• Oversee payroll approval.
• Support the preparation and management of the rolling 15-month forecast.
• Review existing finance processes and implement improvements where appropriate.
• Provide leadership, stability and direction to the finance team during an interim period.
• Ensure robust financial controls and reporting standards are maintained.

Candidate Profile

• Experienced Head of Finance, Financial Controller or Finance Director level contractor.
• Strong track record of managing month-end and financial reporting processes.
• Comfortable operating in a hands-on environment and getting involved in the detail.
• Proven experience stabilising teams and improving finance functions during periods of change.
• Strong business improvement and process improvement experience.
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Candidates must be from from a project-based environment.
