About CPC:

Connected Places Catapult is the UK’s innovation accelerator for transport, the built environment, cities, and local growth. We aim to create better connected places across the UK and beyond, where living, working, and moving are improved through innovation in systems, infrastructure, and economy. Our goal is to make places more sustainable, regenerative, resilient, prosperous, and thriving communities.

We believe innovation is key to unlocking the potential of towns, cities, and transport systems, making them more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous for all.

We act as a catalyst, accelerating the innovation lifecycle for new products and services that address societal challenges and promote economic growth.

We collaborate with businesses, knowledge partners, and public bodies to bridge the gap between discovery and market adoption, scaling innovation across communities, towns, and cities.

The role:

We seek a bold, energetic leader to join as Head of Built Environment and Urbanism Engagement. You will be pivotal in scaling the UK’s innovation capabilities in the built environment, viewing urban complexity as an opportunity and influencing systems at the intersection of technology, place, and people.

This role is within our Built Environment and Urbanism Directorate, focusing on physical and spatial aspects of place—planning, construction, housing, real estate, infrastructure, and public spaces. We take a whole-systems approach across the entire lifecycle to improve how places are planned, designed, delivered, and regenerated in response to cultural, environmental, and economic changes. You will shape engagement strategies to foster more connected, inclusive, and sustainable places.

This is not a traditional sales role; it’s about creating meaningful partnerships to drive innovation and adoption. You will collaborate across government, industry, academia, and SMEs to develop projects that promote decarbonisation, digital transformation, citizen co-creation, and economic growth. You will lead a talented team to reach its full potential.

You will work closely with senior leadership to build strategic partnerships and shape market engagement, offering a unique opportunity to reimagine the systems shaping our lives. We seek a curious, driven leader committed to impact.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Engagement and Market Development
  • Drive strategic engagement aligned with government priorities, CPC strategy, and market challenges.
  • Develop and prioritize partnerships with stakeholders across sectors.
  • Represent CPC at national and sector events, contributing to policy debates and media engagement.
  • Understand market trends, client needs, and competitive landscape; share insights to inform strategy and identify opportunities.
Business Development & Account Leadership
  • Identify, qualify, and secure new business opportunities to meet KPIs and revenue targets.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop proposals and negotiate deals with clients.
  • Manage sales pipeline and maintain CRM system for accurate tracking.
  • Create market intelligence-driven collateral and structured sales approaches.
Team Leadership & Capability Building
  • Empower colleagues to identify opportunities and nurture relationships.
  • Promote a collaborative, outward-facing mindset and embed systems-thinking.
  • Mentor junior staff and develop future leaders.
  • Align engagement strategies with delivery capabilities and foster continuous improvement.
  • Manage performance through goal setting and development planning.
