Job summary

PHMG, a Manchester-based data-driven organisation, seeks a Head of Data Engineering to lead and mature the data engineering function. You will own the core data platform, warehouse and pipelines, shaping an engineering roadmap aligned with PHMG’s data strategy and business priorities.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership of Data Engineering teams.
• Experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale data platforms and architectures.
• Strong SQL and Python skills.
• Experience with modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, BigQuery).
• Solid understanding of source control, CI/CD, automated testing, code review, monitoring and observability.
• Proficient data modelling for reporting and analytics (dbt or similar).
• Knowledge of data quality, governance, security and data management best practices.
• Experience delivering with agile methodologies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Data Engineering team and improve ways of working.
• Own core data platform, architecture, data warehouse and pipelines ensuring scalability and cost-effectiveness.
• Oversee Data Engineering delivery ensuring design, prioritisation and delivery to standards.
• Embed engineering practices across source control, CI/CD, testing, code review, documentation and monitoring.
• Collaborate with Data team to translate strategy into engineering roadmap and delivery plan.
• Collaborate with IT/Infra and other teams on architecture, integrations and platform decisions.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and efficiency of PHMG’s data capability.
