Job summary

PHMG is seeking an experienced Data Engineer in Manchester to design, build and maintain reliable, scalable data pipelines while enhancing the data platform.

You will work with modern cloud technologies, contribute to data architecture, and collaborate with Reporting, Insights and Data Science teams to deliver data solutions.

Qualifications

  • Strong SQL and Python skills with data engineering experience.
  • Experience building scalable pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Proficient with cloud data platforms and data architecture.
  • Knowledge of data modelling for reporting and analytics.
  • Familiar with Git-based source control, CI/CD, testing and monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines and datasets.
  • Develop and improve the Microsoft Fabric data platform.
  • Create data warehouse, lakehouse and integration solutions.
  • Apply engineering practices across source control, CI/CD, testing and docs.
  • Build data models for reporting and analytics to support business use cases.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and teams to improve architecture and processes.
  • Work with Reporting, Insights and Data Science to deliver data solutions.

Role:Data Engineer

Location:Manchester – Hybrid working

Salary: £44k OTE

PHMG is continuing to develop and mature its data capability, focusing onmodernisingour data platform and enhancing the way we work. As part of this continued development, we are looking to strengthen our Data Engineering team andmaximisethe valuefromthe wealth of data held across theorganisation.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to help design,buildandmaintainreliable, scalable data solutions. Working as part of an established Data Engineering team, you will contribute to the development of our data platform, strengthen engineeringpracticesand help improve the quality and reliability of data across theorganisation.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data Engineer with strong SQL and Python skills to work with modern cloud data technologies, contribute to our engineeringstandardsand play a part in delivering and evolving PHMG's Data Strategy.

What you will do:
  • Design, build andmaintainscalable,reliableand maintainable data pipelines and datasets.
  • Play a key role in developing and improving our Microsoft Fabric data platform.
  • Contribute to the design and development of data warehouse,lakehouseand data integration solutions.
  • Apply strong engineering practices across source control, CI/CD, testing,documentation,monitoringand error handling.
  • Develop andmaintaindata models to support reporting,analyticsand wider business use cases.
  • Collaborate with other Data Engineers and technical teams to improve data architecture, platformperformanceand engineering processes.
  • Work closely with Reporting, Insights and Data Science teams to understand requirements and deliver effective data solutions.
The person we are looking for will have the following experience:
  • Strong SQL skills, including experience writing andoptimisingcomplex queries and data transformations.
  • Strong Python skills, with practical experience using Python for data engineering, dataprocessingor automation.
  • Proven experience designing and building data pipelines, with a strong understanding of modern ETL/ELT practices.
  • Experience working with modern cloud data platforms and orchestration technologies. Experience within the Microsoft data ecosystem would beadvantageous.
  • Experience of data modelling for reporting and analytics, including dimensional modelling and designing datasets for downstream consumption.
  • Experience with modern engineering practices including Git-based source control, CI/CD, testing,monitoringand error handling.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working effectively within agile, cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have experience:
  • Microsoft Fabric, including Warehouse,Lakehouseand Data Factory capabilities.
  • Infrastructure as Code approaches and tools such as Terraform.
  • API-based, event-drivenor operational system integrations, such as Salesforce.
The Team

The Data Engineering team sits within PHMG's wider Data function andis responsible forbuilding andmaintainingthe platforms, pipelines and data models that underpin reporting,analyticsand data science across the organisation.

The team works closely with Reporting & Insights, Data Science,ITand otherbusinessteams to make data reliable,accessibleand useful across the business. We are continuing to strengthen our engineering practices, improve ourplatformand build greater resilience and consistency across the data estate.
