Job summary

PHMG is seeking a Head of Data Engineering in its Manchester hybrid office to lead and develop the Data Engineering team and to own the core data platform and pipelines. You will work with IT and Data teams to translate the Data Strategy into an actionable engineering roadmap and delivery plan, driving best practices and modern data solutions for global customers.

The role requires strong leadership, cloud data platform experience (Snowflake/Databricks), advanced SQL/Python, and a proven ability

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience leading, developing and managing Data Engineering teams.
• Strong track record designing and delivering enterprise-scale data platforms and architectures.
• Deep understanding of modern ETL/ELT practices and scalable data pipelines.
• Advanced SQL and Python coding.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift/BigQuery).
• Solid knowledge of CI/CD, testing, code review, monitoring and observability.
• Experience in data modelling for reporting and analytics.
• Strong data quality, governance and data management practices.
• Experience delivering with Agile ways of working.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Data Engineering team with focus on capability and processes.
• Own PHMG’s core data platform, architecture and data pipelines for scalability and cost-effectiveness.
• Drive Data Engineering delivery with clear design, prioritisation and standards.
• Embed engineering practices: source control, CI/CD, testing, code review and monitoring.
• Collaborate with Data, IT and other teams to translate strategy into delivery plans.
• Identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability and efficiency of data capability.
