Job summary

Castle Medical Group in the United Kingdom is seeking a maternity cover practitioner to join the treatment room team. The role focuses on phlebotomy, ECGs, wound care, suture removal and NHS health checks, with scope for additional duties as training allows.

You should be able to manage your own workload with minimal supervision and have experience in general practice or a similar healthcare setting; training in SystmOne and Microsoft applications is available.

Qualifications

• Experience in primary care or similar healthcare setting.
• Experience working within a nursing team.
• Working knowledge of general practice.

Responsibilities

• Phlebotomy including INR tests and specimen prep.
• Wound care and dressings per plan.
• Remove sutures and clips.
• ECGs, FeNo and spirometry if trained.
• NHS health checks for eligible patients.
• Diabetic foot checks and ear syringing.
• Manage anaphylaxis per guidelines; CPR and defibrillator use.
• Infection prevention and control per policy.
• Maintain treatment room stock and attend meetings.

This 12-month maternity cover post sits in the treatment room team at Castle Medical Group, a training practice, working alongside its practice nurses and healthcare assistants. The work centres on phlebotomy, with ECGs, FeNo, wound care, suture removal and NHS health checks, depending on training and scope of practice. The role suits someone who can manage their own workload with minimal supervision and take on additional tasks as requested. Working knowledge of general practice is essential; SystmOne and Microsoft training is available.

What the job involves

• Phlebotomy, including INR tests, with sample labelling and preparation for lab collection
• Wound care and dressings, following practice plan and LLR formulary guidelines
• Removing sutures and clips
• ECGs, FeNo and spirometry, if trained
• NHS health checks with eligible patients
• Diabetic foot checks
• Ear syringing
• Managing anaphylaxis per UK Resuscitation Council guidelines
• CPR and defibrillator use
• Infection prevention and control per practice policy
• Maintaining treatment room stock
• Attending practice and treatment room meetings, mandatory training and CPD, and raising learning needs
