Job summary

Magna Group Practice's clinical team, a training practice with GP partners and nurses, seeks a phlebotomist to work under the Lead Nurse's supervision. Core duties include taking blood, BP checks, urinalysis, weight monitoring, chaperoning and handling specimens, plus equipment upkeep and admin.

The position is 24 hours per week, 08:00–14:00, split across two sites on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and maths at grade A-C.
• Phlebotomy qualification required.
• Experience with phlebotomy and patient-facing roles preferred.

Responsibilities

• Take blood samples as a phlebotomist.
• Assist the clinical team under Lead Nurse direction.
• Carry out BP monitoring and urinalysis.
• Monitor patient weight and chaperone patients as needed.
• Label and bag specimens for collection; ensure sharps bins are ready.
• Maintain equipment used by the nursing team and perform monthly checks.
• Carry out administration, audits and patient recalls as part of the role.

What the job involves

• Take blood samples as a phlebotomist
• Assist the clinical team in delivering prescribed patient care programmes under the Lead Nurse's direction
• Carry out BP monitoring
• Carry out urinalysis
• Monitor patient weight
• Chaperone patients when required
• Label and bag specimens ready for collection
• Ensure sharps bins are ready for collection
• Maintain equipment used by the nursing team
• Carry out monthly checks on clinical room bags against the tick list
• Carry out administration, audits, patient recalls and BP averaging

What’s required

Qualifications

• GCSE grade A to C in English and maths
• Qualified in phlebotomy

Experience

• Demonstrable phlebotomy experience with competence in basic duties
• Experience dealing with the public and patients

Skills & knowledge

• Good computer and keyboard skills
• Excellent communication skills

Other

• Works well in a team and is proactive in developing the practice

• Experience of working in primary care or a GP practice
• SystmOne clinical system experience
