Job summary

RailwayPeople is seeking a HAVS & COSHH Coordinator to oversee COSHH and HAVS requirements across a Coventry project. You will provide practical Health & Safety support to construction teams, subcontractors and the broader project team, delivering inductions, toolbox talks and training.

Essential qualifications include NEBOSH, IOSH membership, CSCS and COSHH/HAVS experience. You will assess risks, manage records and drive continuous improvement in site safety on a contract basis.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate or equivalent is required.
• IOSH membership or working towards membership.
• Relevant CSCS card is required.
• Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation including CDM 2015.
• COSHH and HAVS management experience is essential.
• Experience with construction plant, lifting, excavations, heights and interfaces.
• Good communication, planning and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee COSHH assessments, registers and control measures.
• Coordinate HAVS risk assessments, exposure monitoring and health surveillance.
• Support selection of lower-vibration tools and safer working methods.
• Arrange face-fit testing and ensure emergency equipment is available.
• Provide practical H&S advice to project teams and subcontractors.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and safety training.
• Undertake site inspections, audits and compliance checks; close out actions.
• Support accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
• Maintain H&S records and performance data.
• Promote a positive H&S culture across workforce and supply chain.

Role Purpose

To coordinate and oversee HAVS and COSHH requirements across the project, providing practical Health & Safety support to construction teams, subcontractors and the wider project team.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and maintain COSHH assessments, registers and control measures.
• Coordinate HAVS risk assessments, exposure monitoring and health surveillance.
• Support the selection of lower-vibration tools and safer working methods.
• Arrange face-fit testing and ensure appropriate emergency equipment is available.
• Provide practical Health & Safety advice to project teams and subcontractors.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and safety training.
• Undertake site inspections, audits and compliance checks, ensuring actions are closed out.
• Support accident, incident and near-miss investigations.
• Maintain Health & Safety records and performance data.
• Promote a positive Health & Safety culture across the workforce and supply chain.
• Support the wider Health & Safety team with project delivery.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

• Construction / civil engineering Health & Safety experience.
• NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, or equivalent.
• IOSH membership or working towards membership.
• Relevant CSCS card.
• Good knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and CDM 2015.
• Practical experience of COSHH and HAVS management.
• Experience working around construction plant, lifting operations, excavations, work at height and public interfaces.
• Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Desirable:

• CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) or equivalent.
• TechIOSH or equivalent.
• Experience within road, rail or major civil engineering projects.
• Experience delivering safety training and toolbox talks.

A proactive Health & Safety professional with strong COSHH and HAVS knowledge, able to work closely with construction teams and subcontractors to identify risks, implement practical controls and drive continuous improvement in site safety.
