Job summary

Randstad CPE is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator for a major civil engineering project in the UK. The role is hands-on, embedding safety within the site team and leading HAVS and COSHH coordination.

The ideal candidate holds NEBOSH and CSCS cards, with IOSH membership in progress, and strong IT skills. A 12-month contract with a rate of £17 per hour Umbrella (Inside IR35) is offered.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH certification is required.
• CSCS card is required.
• Strong understanding of UK Health and Safety legislation and CDM 2015.
• Excellent communication skills to secure buy-in from site teams.

Responsibilities

• Act as the controlling mind for HAVS and COSHH on site.
• Enforce vibration limits and monitor the project's 100-point limit.
• Maintain the COSHH Register and issue assessments via Sypol; arrange face-fit testing.
• Collaborate with construction and plant teams to identify lower-emission methods.
• Conduct site checks; ensure RAMS are up to date and emergency equipment is present.
• Develop and deliver safety training including inductions and toolbox talks.
• Analyze health and safety data in Excel to spot trends and produce reports.
• Assist in audits, incident investigations and drug & alcohol testing.

Are you a driven Health & Safety professional looking to make your mark on a major civil engineering project? I am currently partnering with a leading international infrastructure group to recruit a proactive and hands-on Health and Safety Coordinator. This is a fantastic opportunity to embed yourself within a dynamic site team, acting as the primary focal point for all health, safety, and hazardous materials coordination. Whether you have a few years of experience under your belt or are a highly motivated self-starter coming off a university placement, my client is ready to provide the training and platform for you to succeed.

Contract Details:

• Rate: £17 per hour Umbrella (Inside IR35).
• Duration: 12-month contract.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the controlling mind for all HAVS and COSHH coordination on site.
• Safeguard vibration limits by strictly enforcing the project's 100-point limit, compared to the general business limit of 400 points.
• Maintain an up-to-date COSHH Register, issue assessments via the Sypol system, and arrange face-fit testing where required.
• Work closely with construction and plant teams during the design and planning stages to identify less hazardous methodologies and select tools with the lowest vibration emissions.
• Conduct hands-on site checks alongside operations teams to ensure emergency equipment is present, control measures are implemented, and RAMS are fully up to date.
• Develop and deliver safety training, including project inductions, toolbox talks, and topic-specific presentations.
• Manipulate health and safety data using Excel to spot trends, produce management reports, and report out findings.
• Assist in routine health and safety compliance audits, accident investigations, and Drug & Alcohol testing.

What We Are Looking For

• A candidate holding a NEBOSH and a relevant CSCS card
• Corporate Membership of IOSH (or working towards it)
• A strong understanding of UK Health and Safety legislation, ACOP's, and the application of CDM 2015
• Exceptional communication skills with the ability to secure buy-in from site teams regarding the importance of up-to-date documentation.
• Strong IT skills, specifically across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
