Job summary

Pilgrim's Europe is seeking an Assistant Hatchery Manager at Carn Hatchery, Portadown, to lead hatchery operations, supervise staff, and ensure biosecurity and production targets are met. This role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to work within a team and on independent tasks, and hands-on management experience in poultry hatcheries.

Rotating two-week shifts with early hours and weekend coverage apply.

Qualifications

• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• People management expertise and problem-solving abilities.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and computer literacy.
• Valid driving licence for transport coordination.
• Previous poultry management or livestock handling experience (desirable).
• Previous hatchery experience (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Manage hatchery operations including egg handling, incubation, and chick dispatch.
• Train and lead hatchery staff to ensure efficient operations.
• Oversee transport logistics for eggs and chicks and vehicle maintenance.
• Monitor hygiene and enforce biosecurity protocols.
• Maintain and service hatchery equipment such as incubators and hatchers.
• Keep accurate production and performance records.
• Provide on-call cover during nights and weekends as part of a rota.
