Job summary

Fortus Recruitment Group Limited is seeking an experienced Handyperson to join the maintenance team across Horsham. The role covers planned and reactive tasks in housing, offices and public buildings, with a focus on safe, right-first-time repairs.

You will perform fabric repairs, decorating, and general maintenance, working alongside engineers on two-person jobs and recording all work via a PDA/tablet. The role includes out-of-hours rota commitments and a company vehicle is provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar Handyperson or property maintenance role.
• Experience in social housing or property maintenance sectors is preferred.
• Ability to use a range of hand tools and power tools.
• Comfortable using a PDA/tablet to record work and notes.

Responsibilities

Job description

Fortus Recruitment Group Limited are a recruitment company that specialise in placing people within the repairs and maintenance industry.

An established property services contractor is looking for an experienced Handyperson to join their maintenance team working across Horsham. This is a permanent role offering stability, varied work and the opportunity to work across a long-term maintenance contract for Horsham District Council.

The Role:

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of properties including housing, offices, commercial buildings, libraries and other public buildings
• Diagnose and carry out repairs relating to general building maintenance, fabric and decorating
• Undertake a range of general repairs including street furniture, fixtures, fittings and other associated maintenance tasks
• Carry out porterage duties including moving equipment and furniture and erecting signage and barriers
• Complete regular PPM tasks including fire panel testing and water compliance checks
• Carry out water hygiene tasks including tap flushing, temperature testing and TMV servicing
• Work alongside engineers as a second person on two-person jobs
• Support other trades to deliver a professional and safe maintenance service
• Complete accurate job notes, inspection records, logbooks and documentation
• Use a PDA/tablet to record completed works, materials used and photographs
• Respond to maintenance requests efficiently and work to a right first time approach
• Participate in the out of hours call-out rota

What We're Looking For:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar Handyperson or property maintenance role
• Experience working within the social housing or property maintenance sector
• Good knowledge of general building maintenance and fabric repairs
• Ability to use a range of hand tools, power tools and equipment
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Organised with good communication skills
• Comfortable using a PDA or tablet to record completed works
• Ability to manage a varied workload and changing priorities

Requirements:

• Full clean UK Driving Licence
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures
• Willingness to participate in out of hours work

Desirable:

• CSCS Card
• PASMA and/or IPAF certification
