Job summary

Johnstons of Elgin is seeking a Hand Sewing Operative to join the Needlework Department. The role is full-time and permanent, working 38 hours per week from Monday to Thursday 07:00–16:00 and Friday 07:00–11:00. The hourly rate is £13.45.

You will hand sew labels and add logos to luxury products, embroider logos, trim threads, and follow detailed instructions with a strong emphasis on quality and teamwork to meet production targets.

• Ability to carefully and accurately follow written instructions.
• Team player with good communication skills.
• Good colour vision is required.
• Organised and reliable, able to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Hand sew labels and add logos to luxury products (scarves, blankets).
• Embroider logos onto products with attention to detail.
• Remove backing materials and trim excess threads.
• Follow detailed instructions carefully and accurately.
• Maintain high quality standards and consistent output.
• Work efficiently to meet production plan and contribute to a smooth department workflow.
• Collaborate with team to support Needlework Department needs.

Job Title: Hand Sewing Operative

We have an exciting opportunity for Hand Sewing Operative to join our Needlework Department.

This is a full time, permanent position working 38 hours per week as follows:

Monday to Thursday 0700-1600, and Friday 0700-1100.

Rate of pay for this role is £13.45 per hour.

About the Role

As a Needlework Operative here at Johnstons of Elgin, you will be

• Hand sewing labels and adding logos to our luxury products, including scarves and blankets
• Adding embroidered logos to products
• Removing backing materials and trimming excess threads
• Following detailed instructions carefully and accurately
• Working with a high level of attention to detail to ensure products meet our quality standards
• Taking pride in producing work to a consistently high standard
• Working efficiently to achieve the required output levels and meet our production plan
• Working as part of a team to support the smooth running of the Needlework Department
