Job summary

Seagate Technology in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland seeks a Laser Design Modeling Engineer to join the Advanced Technology Research and Development team. You will design advanced III-V laser architectures for HAMR read/write heads and simulate performance using specialized tools, while collaborating with wafer development and test teams.

The role requires a PhD or MSc with relevant industrial experience, excellent communication, and a proactive approach to technology progression.

Qualifications

• Requires PhD or MSc with industrial experience in III-V laser design and modelling.
• Knowledgeable in III-V laser physics and laser design for stable high-temperature performance.
• Excellent communication and ability to work in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Carry out computational modelling and design of advanced semiconductor laser architectures for HAMR read/write heads.
• Use LaserMOD/Crosslight/Harold and FDTD, Lumerical Interconnect to simulate laser performance.
• Perform data analysis to support modelling conclusions and propose improvements.
• Plan experimental builds and testing with R&D engineers and scientists.
• Improve existing modelling capabilities and develop new methodologies.
• Collaborate with adjacent teams to meet performance and reliability goals.
• Stay updated on III-V laser research developments.
• Collaborate with external partners to translate research into practical options.
