Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist for Haematology at University Hospital Wishaw. You will perform a broad range of diagnostic investigations, provide clinical advice, and work with complex equipment while mentoring trainee staff.

The role requires HCPC registration and a BSc in Biomedical Science. You will contribute to patient care, ensure compliance with policies, and participate in CPD activities within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• State HCPC registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
• BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
• Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
• Evidence of continuing professional development, e.g. specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.

Responsibilities

• Responsible as a state HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist for providing a high standard of patient care: required to work independently.
• Adherence to policies and procedures relevant to all areas of work in accordance with Departmental, Directorate, Hospital and regulatory requirements.
• Validates and authorises clinical laboratory results, issuing reports/results to service users e.g. clinicians.
• Recommending further tests/actions when required with referral to more senior staff/Consultant as appropriate.
• Supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants working in that area.
