Job summary

The Western Health And Social Care Trust is seeking a Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Clinical Chemistry laboratory in Derry/Londonderry. The role supports accreditation, performs routine and specialist analyses and contributes to SOPs and quality control.

Applicants must be HCPC registered with an IBMS Specialist Diploma (or equivalent) and have relevant post-registration experience. A Band 6 specialist track with HCPC maintained may be acceptable.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent required.
• Diploma (or equivalent) in relevant discipline.
• At least 1 year post HCPC registration experience in the relevant discipline.

Responsibilities

• Comply with Departmental policies to maintain full UKAS Accreditation.
• Understand and perform routine analytical and specialist procedures relevant to Haematology/Blood Transfusion/Clinical Chemistry.
• Develop core practical skills in related laboratory disciplines as directed.
• Perform special assignments approved by senior staff.
• Ensure accuracy and clarity of all documentation concerning specimen examination.
• Support SOP development and maintenance across sections/work areas.
• Conform to statutory Health and Safety procedures.
• Maintain a documented quality control programme.
