Job summary

Merlin in York is seeking Guest Experience Hosts to welcome visitors and guide them through York’s grim dungeon experience. You’ll greet guests with a sly grin, stock up with themed goodies, answer questions and help drive sales.

This is a seasonal role with a minimum of 5 hours per week, working weekends and dates through Autumn Half Term, with interviews mid-September and start dates from early October.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a customer-facing environment.
• Outgoing personality and ability to engage visitors.
• Confidence and energy to interact with guests in a themed setting.
• A sharp tongue and the ability to manage lively crowds respectfully.
• Energetic and able to keep up with fast-paced, interactive scenarios.

What you'll bring to the team

Ever dreamed of welcoming peasants to York’s darkest depths and dishing out dungeon delights? We're recruiting Guest Experience Hosts to drag visitors kicking and screaming (with laughter) through York’s most gruesome past.

You’ll be:

• Greeting our rebel rabble with a cold, sarcastic grin.
• Stocking them up with Dungeon goodies (no refunds for cursed items).
• Answering foolish questions like, “Is it scary?” (Yes. Next.)
• Lurking around as a sales demon extraordinaire.

Sure, it’s cold, damp, and smells suspiciously of rotting flesh, but isn’t that part of the charm?

This is a seasonal role offering a minimum of 5 guaranteed hours per week and contracted up until Sunday, 1st November 2026 (with the possible extensions thereafter. Flexibility is needed including the ability to work weekends and must be available during Autumn Half Term, including weekend 31st of October and Half term: Saturday 24th of October until Sunday 1st of November.

Ideally interviews will be held from Wednesday 16th - Sunday 20th of September, with start dates from 5th October onwards.
