Job summary

SSE plc in Glasgow is seeking a Group Payments Manager to lead the end-to-end payments operation, ensuring safe, efficient and controlled settlement activity. You will oversee governance, risk and resilience while driving continuous improvement across the payments lifecycle.

Using data, technology and automation, you will strengthen controls, manage high-value, time-critical payments, and collaborate with banking partners to keep payment operations resilient and fit for the future.

Qualifications

• Significant experience leading payment operations, settlements, treasury operations or other highly controlled financial processes within a large, complex organisation.
• Strong understanding of the end-to-end payment and settlement lifecycle, including payment execution, banking platforms, approvals, reconciliation and exception management.
• Proven experience managing operational risk, governance and control frameworks, including fraud prevention, audit, remediation and operational resilience.
• Demonstrable experience delivering operational transformation and continuous improvement, using automation, digital tools and process simplification to improve efficiency and controls.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills, using operational data, performance measures and risk indicators to identify opportunities and drive improvements.
• Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with experience building high-performing teams and working collaboratively with Treasury, banking partners and senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Group Payments function, ensuring payment and settlement activity is delivered safely, efficiently and securely.
• Oversee operational performance, governance, risk and resilience across the end-to-end payment lifecycle.
• Manage the effective delivery and escalation of complex, high-value, high-risk and time-critical payments.
• Use data, technology and automation to strengthen controls, improve processes and drive continuous improvement.
• Build strong relationships with key stakeholders, banking partners and third-party providers, ensuring payment operations remain resilient and fit for the future.
