Job summary

Westwood Recruitment is seeking a Ground Maintenance Operative in Manchester to maintain outdoor spaces and enhance safety and appearance. You will perform landscaping tasks, mow lawns, prune shrubs, and operate power tools as part of a dedicated team.

The role requires a valid Cat B license, experience with tipper/trailer, City & Guilds accreditation, and immediate availability. A market-leading flexible benefits scheme is provided to suit your lifestyle.

Qualifications

• Valid Cat B driving license.
• Experience using a tipper with trailer.
• COTS/City & Guilds‑accredited training required.
• No more than 6 points on license; no DD/DR/IN10/TT99 endorsements.
• Immediate availability.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine landscaping: mowing, pruning, planting, lawn care.
• Operate power tools (trimmers, blowers, hedge cutters) safely.
• Use hand tools for planting, digging, edging.
• Manage irrigation systems and troubleshoot issues.
• Carry out general grounds maintenance: debris clearance, weed control, surface repairs.
• Operate small plant equipment as needed for larger projects.
• Inspect tools and machinery; report faults or perform basic repairs.
• Assist with seasonal planting schemes and horticultural improvements.
• Follow health and safety protocols when working outdoors.
• Collaborate with team to complete projects efficiently and to high standards.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and a passion for outdoor environment care. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with construction experience, horticulture knowledge, or hands-on skills in landscape maintenance to contribute to a dynamic team.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine landscaping activities including mowing, pruning, planting, and lawn care to maintain healthy and attractive outdoor spaces.
• Operate and maintain power tools such as trimmers, blowers, and hedge cutters safely and effectively.
• Use hand tools for planting, digging, edging, and other gardening tasks with precision.
• Manage irrigation systems to ensure proper watering schedules and troubleshoot issues as needed.
• Conduct general grounds maintenance including debris clearance, weed control, and surface repairs.
• Operate small plant equipment such as pedestrian mower, strimmer, hedge cutter and blower when necessary for larger landscaping or site preparation projects.
• Carry out routine mechanical inspections on tools and machinery to ensure safe operation and perform basic repairs or report faults.
• Assist with seasonal planting schemes and horticultural improvements to enhance landscape aesthetics.
• Follow health and safety protocols diligently while working outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality.
