AECOM invites an Industrial or Summer Placement Student to join the Ground Engineering team in London on a hybrid basis. The role offers hands‑on experience in ground investigation design, data interpretation and 3D modelling, with exposure to a wide range of projects across the UK and internationally.

You will contribute to desk studies, site inspections, data collection and technical reporting under the guidance of senior staff, developing skills in 2D/3D numerical analysis and tender

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Geology with an expected 2:1 or higher.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD or Civil 3D advantageous but not essential.
• Strong interest in geotechnics and enthusiasm for engaging with multidisciplinary colleagues and clients.
• Willing to travel for work, including site visits and possibly other AECOM offices.
• Effective communicator in English, skilled in writing, presenting, creating drawings and reports.
• Highly organised, able to prioritise tasks and work in a team or independently.
• Creative, practical, and detail‑oriented with a methodical approach to problem solving, planning and design.
• Comfortable using computers for design work and calculations.
• Driven to achieve excellent results for clients while balancing project goals, budgets, and timelines.
• Aware of health & safety, environmental and sustainability considerations in engineering.
• Clean driving licence is a plus but not essential.

Responsabilités

• Support Ground Investigation Projects – desk studies, site inspections, rockface surveys and geomorphological mapping.
• Data Collection and Analysis – gather, manage and interpret geological and geotechnical data using OpenGround and Leapfrog.
• Technical Reporting – assist in preparing interpretative and design reports, ground models and technical documentation.
• Design Support – assist in designing foundations, retaining walls, slope stability and earthworks.
• Numerical Modelling – develop skills in 2D/3D numerical analysis using firm software.
• Tender Documentation – help prepare Ground Engineering tender documents (Works Requirements and drawings).
• Collaboration – work with engineers, geologists, and environmental specialists.
• Health, Safety and Sustainability Awareness – apply HSE practices on site and in offices.
