Job summary

Enviromena in Reading, UK is seeking a motivated Grid Engineer to lead and support grid connection strategies for solar and storage projects. You will work with Development, Engineering and Commercial teams to identify opportunities, assess risks, and secure timely grid connections across the UK.

The role involves liaising with DNOs, NESO, TOs and ICPs, reviewing offers, managing programme implications, and mentoring junior engineers as the team grows.

Qualifications

• Experience working on electricity grid connections for renewable energy, storage, infrastructure, utilities or related organisations.
• Knowledge of UK electricity networks, grid connection processes and industry regulations.
• Experience reviewing connection offers and understanding associated technical, commercial and programme risks.
• Understanding of distribution network connection arrangements.

Responsibilities

• Leading or supporting grid-related engineering challenges across development, construction and operations.
• Identify, assess and mitigate grid connection risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Prepare, review and submit grid connection applications to DNOs.
• Manage relationships with network operators and other key stakeholders to progress connection offers and works.
• Review grid connection offers, identifying risks, opportunities, costs and programme implications.
• Monitor industry reforms and regulatory changes and communicate impacts across the business.
• Identify and evaluate grid technologies and connection strategies to optimise project economics.
• Support business development in identifying grid capacity opportunities for solar.
• Provide technical support to finance, acquisitions and due diligence on grid risks and opportunities.
• Assist with grid compliance requirements tied to connection agreements and assets.
• Collaborate with internal/external engineering consultants, ICPs, lawyers and operators to deliver outcomes.
• Mentor junior team members and share knowledge across the business.
