Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer in East London to lead grid connection studies for renewable energy projects. You will perform load flow, short circuit, and stability analyses, and design interconnection schemes for solar and wind facilities while coordinating with grid operators and project teams.

The role requires a strong background in power systems, grid codes, and protection systems, with the ability to deliver compliant and robust grid integration solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems specialization.
• 6+ years of experience in electrical engineering focusing on grid connection studies.
• Experience performing grid interconnection studies with PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD.
• Strong knowledge of grid codes, transmission & distribution operations, and protection systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct grid interconnection studies (load flow, short circuit, stability, fault ride-through).
• Develop designs and specifications for grid substation connections, including protection schemes.
• Ensure compliance with Eskom/grid codes and standards.
• Liaise with grid operators and stakeholders to progress connection approvals.
• Collaborate with project teams to integrate renewables with the grid.
• Review and approve technical documentation related to grid connections.
• Contribute to technical standards for grid integration.
