Job summary

Hitachi Energy UK Limited is seeking a Field Service Engineer (Electrical) in the UK to join our Grid Connections Service team. You will perform installation, inspection, maintenance and repair on medium-voltage switchgear and transformers up to 33kV, supporting commissioning and energisation of Grid Connections projects.

The role requires frequent travel across the UK, with overnight stays, on-call standby, and weekend work to support customers and emergencies.

Qualifications

Qualified Electrical Engineer or Technician with experience in power, service, maintenance or commissioning.
Strong knowledge of MV switchgear, transformers, protection relays and control systems.
Completed recognised electrical maintenance courses and City & Guilds 236/232 or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
Experience in electrical testing, commissioning, fault finding and diagnostics.
Knowledge of MV infrastructure up to 33kV and substations; advantageous network automation exposure.
SAP, secondary injection/testing, transformer oil handling and safety qualifications desirable.
Full UK driving license.

Responsibilities

Install, inspect, maintain and repair MV switchgear and transformers up to 33kV.
Support commissioning, testing, energisation and protection relay installations.
Diagnose faults and provide on-site and remote technical analysis.
Complete service reports using approved digital systems and databases.
Contribute to project delivery, ensuring quality, safety and compliance.
Participate in 24/7 on-call standby and rapid response for outages.
Manage insulating oil delivery and handling under the Oil Management System.
Assist with quotations and technical input for tenders.
