Hitachi Energy has an exciting opportunity to join our Grid Connections Service business as a Field Service Engineer (Electrical). You will contribute to the execution of the service strategy and business growth by delivering high-quality inspection, maintenance, installation, commissioning and emergency support services for medium-voltage electrical infrastructure across the UK.
Working as part of a team of experienced engineers and technicians, you will support industrial and commercial customers, including many blue-chip organisations, ensuring the safe and reliable operation of switchgear, transformers, protection systems and associated equipment up to 33kV.
You will play a key role in delivering safe, compliant and efficient service activities whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality, technical excellence and customer satisfaction.
Please note: This is a highly mobile, field-based role requiring travel across the UK. Successful candidates should expect frequent overnight stays away from home, eventual participation in an on-call standby rota and occasional weekend working to support customer requirements and emergency response activities.
How You'll Make an Impact:
Perform installation, inspection, maintenance and repair activities on medium-voltage switchgear and transformers up to 33kV.
Support commissioning, testing and energisation activities for Grid Connections projects and service contracts and install and commission protection relays, control systems and associated control cabling.
Diagnose faults and provide technical analysis through both remote and on-site support activities. Deliver service work safely, on time, within budget and to the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
Complete inspection, maintenance and service reports using approved digital systems and databases.
Support project and service delivery by ensuring productivity, quality and compliance targets are achieved.
Eventual participation in a 24/7 on-call standby rota, providing rapid response support to customer network issues and outages.
Take responsibility for the delivery, collection and control of insulating oil in accordance with the company Oil Management System.
Support the preparation of quotations and provide technical input into the tendering process for service work and projects.
Ensure full compliance with the Electrical Safety Management System, company procedures and customer requirements.
Your Background:
Qualified Electrical Engineer or Technician with proven experience within the power sector, service, maintenance, commissioning or electrical distribution environments.
Strong knowledge of power systems, medium-voltage switchgear, transformers, protection relays, control systems and third-party MV products.
Completed a recognised electrical switchgear and transformer maintenance course and hold a City & Guilds 236/232, NVQ Level 3 Electrical qualification or equivalent.
Experience in electrical testing, commissioning, fault finding, diagnostics and technical report writing.
Knowledge of electrical infrastructure up to 33kV, including substations, protection systems and network automation equipment would be advantageous.
SAP, Secondary Injection / Commissioning Testing, transformer oil handling experience and site safety qualifications (CSCS, CCNSG, IPAF or PASMA) are desirable.
Full UK Driving License.
