Job summary

Step Into Teaching is seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant for a Northampton secondary school, starting September 2026. This is a full-time role based in Northamptonshire.

You will support students with learning, provide 1:1 and small group assistance, and help create engaging resources while working closely with teaching staff to foster a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (2:2 or above) required.
  • Genuine interest in education and helping students reach potential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Desirable: experience in a school or SEN knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering lessons and activities.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students needing extra help.
  • Assist in creating and preparing teaching resources.
  • Help manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive environment.
  • Give feedback on student progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Support students with SEN if required.
  • Participate in school events and extracurricular activities.
  • Assist with administrative tasks including attendance tracking.

Step Into Teaching are seeking graduates for a secondary school in Northampton offering full time roles.

The Opportunity:
  • September 2026 start
  • Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
  • Graduates with a 2:2 or above Hons degree required*
  • Aspiring educational psychologists/ SEN Teachers
  • 1:1 & Small Group work
  • Northampton, Northamptonshire
  • Full-time roles – Monday - Friday
  • £500 - £530 per week
The successful graduate must:
  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
  • A genuine interest in education and helping students achieve their potential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting (desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge of special educational needs (SEN) and strategies to support students with additional learning needs (desirable but not essential).
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support teachers in the delivery of lessons and classroom activities.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, particularly those who require additional assistance.
  • Help create and prepare teaching resources and materials.
  • Assist in managing classroom behavior and maintaining a safe and positive environment.
  • Provide feedback on students’ progress and help identify areas for improvement.
  • Support students with special educational needs, if required.
  • Participate in school events and extracurricular activities as needed.
  • Help with administrative tasks, including tracking student attendance and progress.
