Job summary

Step Into Teaching partners with a welcoming secondary school in Witham to recruit Graduate Teaching Assistants for September 2026. This full-time, term-time role involves in-class support across departments and targeted interventions to help students progress.

You will gain valuable classroom experience ahead of teacher training or other education careers, with ongoing mentoring and professional development throughout your placement in a supportive school community.

Qualifications

  • 2:2 degree or above (any subject).
  • GCSE English and Maths at 4/C or above.
  • Interest in education and supporting young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enthusiastic, adaptable and committed to making a positive impact.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-class support across departments to help students engage and progress.
  • Deliver targeted interventions 1:1 and in small groups to boost attainment and confidence.
  • Support lesson delivery, classroom management and learning activities.
  • Work with students of all abilities, including those with additional learning needs.
  • Assist with resources preparation and classroom organisation.
  • Promote positive behaviour and a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Build relationships with pupils and be a valued member of the school community.

Are you a graduate looking to gain invaluable classroom experience before progressing into teacher training or another career working with young people?

Step Into Teaching is working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Witham to recruit Graduate Teaching Assistants for September 2026. This full-time, term-time opportunity will see you working across a variety of departments, supporting students both in the classroom and through targeted intervention sessions, giving you the experience and confidence needed for a future career in education.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Providing in-class support across a range of subject departments, helping students engage with learning and make progress
  • Delivering targeted interventions on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to improve attainment and build confidence
  • Supporting teachers with lesson delivery, classroom management and learning activities
  • Working with students of all abilities, including those with additional learning needs
  • Assisting with classroom organisation and the preparation of learning resources
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping to create a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment
  • Building strong relationships with pupils and becoming a valued member of the school community
The Role

Job Title:Graduate Teaching Assistant
Location:Witham, Essex
Start Date:September 2026
Interviews:Taking place before Friday and during the first week back in September
Contract:Full‑time | Monday-Friday | Term Time Only
Salary:£500–£530 per week
