Job summary

Step Into Teaching are supporting a secondary school in Coventry with English graduates who are wanting to gain classroom experience before teacher training. This role is ideal for graduates with an English degree who are enthusiastic about English Language and Literature and have a genuine desire to improve pupil outcomes.

The successful candidate will be based in Coventry, work Monday to Friday, full-time, from September 2026, earning £500–£530 per week, and be ideally suited for aspiring

• Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for teaching.
• Experience with young people desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in delivering English lessons.
• Work with students in small groups or one-to-one to reinforce learning.
• Assist with classroom management and a positive learning environment.
• Monitor progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
• Help prepare teaching materials and resources.
• Provide SEN support as required.
• Encourage confidence, creativity and a love of learning.

The successful graduate must:

• A graduate with a degree in English or a related subject (2:2 or higher)
• Strong communication skills,with the ability to engage and inspire young people.
• A keen interest in pursuing a career in teaching or education.
• Experience working with young people, either in a volunteer or professional capacity, is desirable but not essential.
• Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude toward learning and teaching.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Key responsibilities for your role:

• Support teachers in delivering high-quality lessons in English language and literature.
• Work with students in small groups or on a one-to-one basis to reinforce learning and improve understanding of English concepts.
• Assist with classroom management, helping to create a productive, positive learning environment.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the class teacher.
• Help with preparing teaching materials and resources.
• Provide additional support for students with special educational needs (SEN), as required.
• Encourage confidence, creativity, and a love of learning in students.
