Working across Key Stages 3 and 4, you will support students in developing their literacy, reading comprehension, written communication, and confidence in English.

About the Role

As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the English Department and SEN team to support students both in and out of the classroom. You will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, engage with the curriculum, and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group intervention support in English
  • Support students with reading, writing, and literacy development across KS3 and KS4
  • Assist teachers during English lessons and help deliver engaging learning activities
  • Support pupils with SEND and additional learning needs within the classroom
  • Help monitor student progress and contribute to feedback and assessment activities
  • Encourage student engagement, confidence, and positive attitudes towards learning
  • Assist with literacy initiatives, reading programmes, and extracurricular activities where appropriate

  • A degree in English, English Literature, Creative Writing, or a related subject
  • Experience working with young people or in an educational setting is desirable but not essential
  • A genuine passion for English and education
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive, patient, and adaptable approach
