Job summary

Westlakes Recruit is seeking a motivated Graduate Quantity Surveyor to begin a career in construction commercial management in Wigan. You will learn hands-on across procurement, cost control and project delivery, supporting senior teams from day one.

The role offers structured training, mentoring from experienced professionals, and exposure to live projects with clear progression toward QS roles. A strong numerical mindset and team collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related construction discipline.
• Good understanding of construction processes and basic quantity surveying principles.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• A full UK driving licence would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the commercial management of construction projects from pre-construction through to completion.
• Supporting the preparation of project budgets, cost plans and forecasts.
• Assisting with subcontractor and supplier enquiries, tender analysis and procurement.
• Preparing and issuing subcontract documentation and purchase orders.
• Measuring and valuing works on site.
• Assisting with interim valuations and applications for payment.
• Reviewing subcontractor applications and supporting payment notices.
• Identifying, recording and valuing variations and changes to the works.
• Monitoring project costs against budgets and reporting potential commercial risks.
• Assisting with monthly cost value reconciliation (CVR) and commercial reporting.
• Maintaining accurate project records and commercial documentation.
• Working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Attending site and commercial meetings where required.
• Supporting the preparation and agreement of project final accounts.
• Ensuring commercial activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures and contractual requirements.
