Job summary

McAleer & Rushe is seeking a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to support financial, commercial and contractual management of projects from post-tender handover through to final account close out. You will work closely with Project/Senior Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers.

The role requires a Degree/HND in Quantity Surveying, strong communication and IT skills, and willingness to travel weekly across the UK.

Qualifications

• A Degree/HND in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• Ability to demonstrate relevant work experience, preferably with a Design & Build Main Contractor.
• Strong communication and time management skills.
• Willingness to travel weekly across the UK and Ireland.

Responsibilities

• Assist with subcontract procurement, tender packages, and reconciliations.
• Collaborate with design consultants to ensure tender information is ready and value engineering options.
• Assist subcontractor payments and cost control against budgets.
• Measure from drawings and prepare variations with clients and subcontractors.
• Attend client monthly progress meetings and support project teams.
• Support cost and value reconciliation for Senior QS and Commercial Manager.

Graduate Quantity Surveyor

Division/Department: Commercial
Reports to: Project / Senior Quantity Surveyor
Line Manager: Commercial Manager
Location: Office / Site in UK and Ireland

Reporting to the Project/Senior Quantity Surveyor, as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor you will work closely with Project/Senior Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers by assisting with financial, commercial and contractual management of projects from post-tender handover through to final account close out.

Main Responsibilities

• Assist with the management of the subcontract procurement process – preparation of tender packages, tender reconciliations and subcontract documents.
• Work with the project team, including the design consultants to ensure all information is available for tendering subcontractor packages, as well as exploring value engineering options to bring best value to the project.
• Assist with the subcontractor payment process, ensuring that all applications are assessed and processed in a timely and fair manner.
• Assist with the responsibility for management of all project costs in adherence with the internal budget targets.
• Measurement from drawings (and on site where required) to prepare, negotiate, and agree subcontractor and client variations.
• Assist with cost and value reconciliation of all items in the internal budget for Senior Quantity Surveyors agreement with Commercial Manager.
• Assist with cost and value reconciliation of all variations whether this is for subcontractors or clients for the Project Surveyors agreement with Commercial Manager.
• Attendance at client’s monthly project progress meetings where required.
• Any other duties as required by management.

Education/Experience

• A Degree/HND in Quantity Surveying or other relevant discipline.
• Able to demonstrate suitable work experience, preferably working for a Design & Build Main Contractor.
• Highly motivated, driven with the ability to work individually or part of a team.
• Strong Communication skills.
• Good time management skills.
• Able to work effectively in a team environment.
• IT literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and AutoCAD.
• Flexible and willing to travel to the UK on a weekly basis to liaise and engage with site teams, clients and subcontractors.
• Flexibility with regards to site location within the UK & Ireland.
• Candidates should have the appropriate work permit or the right to work in the UK.
