About HoloMem

HoloMem is a technology company developing holographic data storage solutions to radically lessen the environmental impact of cloud computing. Since forming in 2020, we have developed and patented a unique system that writes and reads data as holograms in a material that can withstand incredibly harsh environmental conditions. This makes it an ideal technology for use in cloud data storage, an industry which currently produces 2.5% of global carbon emissions.

Having partaken in both the Intel Ignite, Deeptech Labs accelerators in 2024, awarded two UK smart grants, and closing a seed plus raise in early 2025, HoloMem is now looking to expedite the development of its pioneering technology by growing its team of problem solvers to support our exciting next chapter.

Job Summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic and growing team. As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer at HoloMem, you will leverage your creative mindset and engineering skills to contribute to the development and optimisation of our cutting-edge data storage systems. Your expertise in mechanical engineering and hands-on prototyping will be instrumental in achieving our ambitious goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Push the capabilities of holographic data storage technologies by creating innovative solutions to challenging problems.
  • Design, assemble and test prototypes of complex mechatronic components using our in-house facilities.
  • Put your CAD skills to work designing parts and assemblies, creating engineering drawings while maintaining documentation control.
  • Work in an agile group of mechanical, optical and software engineers, participating in design reviews to help solve design, engineering, and manufacturing problems.
  • Engineer the next generation of data storage technology.
Requirements
  • Can share a strong portfolio of previous work/projects.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics engineering or a related field.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (OnShape, Solidworks) to design components, produce drawings, and build assemblies.
  • Hands-on, self-taught, and love to work on hardware.
  • Excited to prototype your own designs in our well-equipped workshop.
  • Can communicate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Independent, self-starter with strong communication skills.
Bonus Skills
  • Basic electronics (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), soldering and wiring skills to assist in integration of mechanical and electronic components.
  • Writing scripts to process data and debug embedded systems using C/C++, Python or MATLAB.
  • Have practical experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) for the creation of fabrication drawings.
  • Previous internship/placement experience.
  • Competing in flagship engineering competitions like Formula Student, University Rover Challenge or Shell Eco-marathon.
  • Participant in the maker community or just a general DIY’er.
Benefits
