Job summary

M-Sport UK, based at Dovenby Hall, is recruiting a Graduate Hydraulics Engineer to work at the interface between Engineering, Design and the Hydraulics Department. You will gain hands-on experience in building, developing and testing high-performance hydraulic systems for our competition cars.

This graduate role offers exposure to project planning, process improvement and technical documentation, with opportunities to contribute to system reliability and performance across multiple programmes.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Motorsport/Mechanical/Automotive engineering.
  • Genuine motorsport passion and drive to progress in a high‑performance environment.
  • Willing to learn and take on new challenges within a fast‑paced hands‑on setting.
  • Attention to detail with a practical, methodical approach to problems.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork across departments.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and engineering software.
  • Strong time management to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build, develop and test high‑performance hydraulic systems (brake callipers, dampers, steering, pumps).
  • Support project planning and forecasting to keep programmes on track.
  • Learn and improve processes and procedures in Hydraulics.
  • Prepare and issue technical documentation for builds and development.
  • Conduct quality and build checks to meet required standards.
  • Assist with tracking and lifing of hydraulic components for reliability.
  • Analyze and report issues to enhance system reliability and performance.
  • Support system layout and integration across multiple programmes.
  • Collaborate with technicians, suppliers and design teams to ensure functionality.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid, and a variety of global customer racing activities. As part of our Graduate Engineering Programme for the 2027/28 intake, we are looking to recruit an ambitious and driven Graduate Hydraulics Engineer to join our Hydraulics team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to develop their career within a high-performance motorsport environment, working at the interface between Engineering, Design and the Hydraulics Department. You will have the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in the build, development and testing of high-performance hydraulic systems, contributing to the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of M-Sport’s competition cars.

The role responsibilities include:
  • Hydraulic Systems: Assist with the build, development and testing of high-performance hydraulic systems, including brake callipers, dampers, power steering systems and hydraulic pumps.
  • Project Support: Support planning and forecasting activities to help ensure projects remain on track and are delivered to the required standards and deadlines.
  • Process Improvement: Learn, develop and improve processes and procedures across the Hydraulics Department.
  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and issue technical documentation relating to builds and development activities.
  • Quality & Build Checks: Conduct quality and build checks to ensure hydraulic systems and components meet the required standards.
  • Component Tracking & Lifing: Assist with the tracking and lifing of hydraulic components to support reliability, accuracy and effective component management.
  • Analysis & Reporting: Analyse and report on issues to support improvements in system reliability and overall performance.
  • System Integration: Support system layout, component selection and integration across multiple programmes.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with technicians, suppliers, Engineering, Design and other departments to ensure hydraulic system functionality and reliability.

Essential Criteria & Skills:
  • Engineering Qualification: BEng or MEng degree qualification in Motorsport Engineering/Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Motorsport Passion: A genuine passion for motorsport and a drive to progress within a high-performance engineering environment.
  • Willingness to Learn: Keen to learn, develop and take on new challenges within a fast‑paced and hands‑on engineering environment.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail with a practical and methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal, relationship and team‑building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across different departments.
  • Quality & Performance: Pride yourself on delivering a high standard of performance and quality whilst working to strict deadlines in a time‑sensitive environment.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage workloads effectively and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines.
  • IT Literacy: Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and engineering software packages.
Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience within the motorsport or automotive industry, including an industrial placement year.
  • Hands‑on practical motorsport experience, such as volunteering on race weekends or Formula Student.
  • Fundamental understanding of hydraulic systems and fluid dynamics.
