Job summary

M-Sport UK invites applications for a Graduate Engine Engineer to join the Engine team at Dovenby Hall. This role offers hands-on experience in build, development and testing of high-performance competition engines, interfacing with Engineering, Design and the Engine Department.

The successful candidate will develop across processes, documentation, and cross‑department collaboration, contributing to reliability and performance of competition cars within a high‑performance motorsport environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the build, development and testing of high-performance competition engines and components.
  • Support planning and forecasting activities to keep projects on track and on schedule.
  • Learn and improve processes and procedures across the Engine Department.
  • Prepare technical documentation drawings, specifications and build information for engine systems.
  • Conduct quality and build checks to ensure engines meet required standards.
  • Assist with component tracking and lifing to support reliability and accurate component management.
  • Analyze and report issues to support improvements in system reliability and performance.
  • Support system layout, component selection and integration across programmes.
  • Collaborate with technicians, suppliers, Engineering and Design to ensure engine reliability.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid, GT racing and a variety of global customer racing activities. As part of our Graduate Engineering Programme for the 2027/28 intake, we are looking to recruit an ambitious and driven Graduate Engine Engineer to join our Engine team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to develop their career within a high-performance motorsport environment, working at the interface between Engineering, Design and the Engine Department. You will have the opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in the build, development and testing of high-performance competition engines, contributing to the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of M-Sport's competition cars.

The role responsibilities include:
  • Engine Development: Assist with the build, development and testing of high-performance competition engines and components.

  • Project Support: Support planning and forecasting activities to help ensure projects remain on track and are delivered to the required standards and deadlines.

  • Process Improvement: Learn, develop and improve processes and procedures across the Engine Department.

  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and issue technical documentation drawings, specifications and build information relating to engine systems and components.

  • Quality & Build Checks: Conduct quality and build checks to ensure engines and components meet the required standards.

  • Component Tracking & Lifing: Assist with the tracking and lifing of engine components to support reliability, accuracy and effective component management.

  • Analysis & Reporting: Analyse and report on issues to support improvements in system reliability and overall performance.

  • System Integration: Support system layout, component selection and integration across multiple programmes.

  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work closely with technicians, suppliers, Engineering, Design and other departments to ensure engine functionality and reliability.

Essential Criteria & Skills:
  • Engineering Qualification: BEng or MEng degree qualification in Motorsport Engineering/Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Motorsport Passion: A genuine passion for motorsport and a drive to progress within a high-performance engineering environment.

  • Willingness to Learn: Keen to learn, develop and take on new challenges within a fast‑paced and hands‑on engineering environment.

  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail with a practical and methodical approach to problem solving.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal, relationship and team‑building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across different departments.

  • Quality & Performance: Pride yourself on delivering a high standard of performance and quality whilst working to strict deadlines in a time‑sensitive environment.

  • Time Management: Ability to manage workloads effectively and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines.

  • IT Literacy: Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and engineering software packages.

Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience within the motorsport or automotive industry, including an industrial placement year.

  • Hands‑on practical motorsport experience, such as volunteering on race weekends or Formula Student.

  • Fundamental understanding of internal combustion engines, powertrain systems and mechanical principles.
