Overview

RSSB develops railway standards on behalf of the railway industry in Great Britain. Standards are an agreed way of doing something, ensuring interoperability, managing risks, reducing costs, and opening markets.

Over 36 months, you will work across RSSB and the wider industry to gain insights into how we work and the challenges faced in providing a safe, efficient, and sustainable rail system.

You will be based within RSSB’s Standards Infrastructure Team, managing and drafting Infrastructure Standards for Great Britain and international railway systems, and providing technical leadership on various infrastructure issues.

You will have opportunities to collaborate with other teams within RSSB and undertake external placements with industry members, building relationships and contributing to a safer, more efficient, and sustainable rail system.

By the end of the program, you will have built a professional network to support your career within RSSB and beyond, and with our support, you will be on your way to achieving Chartered Engineer status (CEng).

Responsibilities
  • Develop industry standards, guidance, and best practices.
  • Participate in Standards Committees and Standards Interface Committees.
  • Support the development and delivery of RSSB’s training or consultancy services.
  • Engage in RSSB Research Projects as a Technical Specialist.
  • Collaborate with RSSB’s members across the rail sector.
  • Participate in industry events such as the IMechE Railway Challenge and Young Members Presentation.
  • Engage in professional development activities toward CEng status.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a 2:2 in an accredited Engineering degree (IMechE, ICE, or equivalent).
  • A keen interest in Infrastructure and supporting the delivery of related products and services.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical, systematic, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, personal effectiveness, adaptability, resilience, and drive for achievement skills.

Please note: The scheme may involve visiting RSSB member companies and rotations, requiring travel flexibility.

Next steps include a telephone interview (11th-12th June) and, if successful, an interview and assessment at our offices (24th-25th June).
