Job summary

M-Sport UK at Dovenby Hall is seeking a junior Engine Engineer to support development, running and improvement of high-performance competition engines across national and international motorsport programmes.

You will work with Engine Builders and Engine Engineers, assisting in builds, dyno testing and data analysis, while producing engineering documentation and helping with root-cause investigations in a fast-paced team.

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification in Motorsport/Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Understanding of internal combustion engines, mechanical systems and engineering principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical data, solve engineering problems and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • High accuracy and attention to detail when producing engineering documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills within a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with development and continuous improvement of high-performance competition engines.
  • Support engine builds, dyno testing and performance evaluations with Engine Builders and Engineers.
  • Analyze engine test data, identify trends and assist with improvements in performance, reliability and durability.
  • Produce and maintain engineering documentation including build specifications, reports and drawings.
  • Assist with diagnosing engine-related issues and root-cause investigations.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid, GT racing and a variety of global customer racing activities. We are looking to recruit a motivated and technically minded Junior Engine Engineer to join our Engine Engineering team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.

Working alongside experienced Engine Engineers and Engine Builders, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop a career in high-performance engine engineering. You will support the development, running and continuous improvement of world-class competition engines, contributing to projects across a range of national and international motorsport programmes.

The role responsibilities include:

  • Engine Development Support:Assist with the development and continuous improvement of high-performance competition engines.

  • Build & Dyno Support:Work closely with Engine Builders and Engine Engineers to support engine builds, dyno testing and performance evaluations.

  • Technical Analysis:Analyse engine test data, identify trends and assist with investigating performance, reliability and durability improvements.

  • Engineering Documentation:Produce and maintain accurate engineering documentation, including build specifications, reports, and technical drawings.

  • Problem Solving:Assist with diagnosing engine-related issues, supporting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:Work closely with Design, Production, Purchasing and Event teams to ensure efficient delivery of engine programmes.

  • Continuous Improvement:Support initiatives to improve engine performance, manufacturing processes and component reliability.

  • Event & Test Support:Provide engine engineering support across various national and international events and test programmes.

Essential Criteria & Skills:

  • Engineering Qualification:BEng or MEng degree qualification in Motorsport Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Technical Knowledge:Understanding of internal combustion engines, mechanical systems and engineering principles.

  • Analytical Skills:Ability to interpret technical data, solve engineering problems and make evidence-based recommendations.

  • Attention to Detail:High levels of accuracy and attention to detail when producing engineering documentation.

  • Communication Skills:Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Time Management:Ability to manage workloads effectively and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines.

  • IT Literacy:Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and engineering software packages.

  • Teamwork & Initiative:A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and contribute within a fast-paced engineering environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of engine calibration, combustion or performance analysis is advantageous.

  • Previous work experience in an industrial placement year, or hands on practical experience (either volunteering on race weekends or formula student) would be beneficial.
