Job summary

M-Sport UK, based at Dovenby Hall, is seeking an experienced Engine Engineer to join the Engine Engineering team. You will lead development and continuous improvement of high-performance competition engines, working with engine builders, design engineers and partners to maximise performance and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification: BEng or MEng in Motorsport Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience in engine development, engine testing, or high-performance powertrain engineering.
  • Strong understanding of internal combustion engines and performance optimisation.
  • Ability to interpret engine data and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Experience with structured problem solving to improve reliability.
  • Good communication within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Engine Development: Lead the development and continuous improvement of high-performance competition engines, focusing on performance, reliability and durability.
  • Dyno & Test Support: Plan, oversee and analyse engine dyno programmes, ensuring test objectives are met and performance targets achieved.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse engine test and event data to identify performance trends, diagnose issues and recommend engineering improvements.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical support and guidance to Engine Builders and Junior Engineers throughout engine build, development and testing activities.
  • Engineering Documentation: Produce and maintain accurate technical documentation, including build specifications, engineering reports, development plans and technical procedures.
  • Problem Solving: Investigate engine-related issues using structured root cause analysis and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Design, Manufacturing, Purchasing and Quality teams to deliver engine programmes efficiently and to the highest standard.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve engine performance, manufacturing processes and component reliability through innovative engineering solutions.
  • Event & Test Support: Attend domestic and international test events and competitions, providing trackside engineering support when required.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Operating at the highest levels of international motorsport, M-Sport UK delivers programmes across the FIA World Rally Championship, Rally Raid, GT racing and a variety of global customer racing activities. We are looking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated Engine Engineer to join our Engine Engineering team at our Dovenby Hall headquarters.

Working as part of a dedicated engineering team, you will be responsible for the development, performance, reliability and continuous improvement of high-performance competition engines. You will play a key role in delivering championship-winning engine programmes, working closely with Engine Builders, Design Engineers and Technical Partners to maximise engine performance across a range of national and international motorsport programmes.

The role responsibilities include:

Essential Criteria & Skills:
  • Engineering Qualification:BEng or MEng degree qualification in Motorsport Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Industry Experience:Previous experience within engine development, engine testing or high-performance powertrain engineering.

  • Technical Knowledge:Strong understanding of internal combustion engines, engine systems and performance optimisation.

  • Analytical Skills:Ability to interpret engine data, diagnose technical issues, and make evidence-based engineering decisions.

  • Problem Solving:Experience using structured engineering methods to investigate faults and improve reliability.

  • Communication Skills:Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Time Management:Ability to manage workloads effectively and deliver tasks to agreed deadlines.

  • IT Literacy:Competent user of Microsoft Office applications and engineering software packages.

  • Teamwork & Initiative:A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and contribute within a fast-paced engineering environment.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience working with professional motorsport or another high-performance engineering environment.

  • Knowledge of engine calibration, combustion analysis or data acquisition systems.

  • Experience supporting engine programmes at test events or international motorsport competitions.
