Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer in York to begin a career in civil infrastructure design and delivery. You will work within our civils team, gaining real project experience and support to develop your skills from early concept to delivery.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers, perform design tasks, and participate in site visits to understand construction methods and progress while progressing toward chartership.

Qualifications

• Degree in civil engineering or closely related subject with solid understanding of core principles.
• Interest in infrastructure design and delivery, with care for calculations and drawings.
• Confident in asking questions and working as part of a team.
• Willing to learn new tools, standards and ways of working.

Responsibilities

• Help prepare civil engineering designs, calculations, drawings and reports.
• Support drainage, highways, earthworks and site infrastructure work as needed.
• Use design software under guidance of senior engineers.
• Review survey data and project information to develop practical solutions.
• Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and participate in project meetings.
• Visit sites to understand construction methods and progress.

Graduate Civil Engineer

Location: York

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Start your civil engineering career with a team that will give you real project experience and the support to develop your skills. We're looking for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join our civils team in York and contribute to the design and delivery of infrastructure projects.

You'll work with experienced engineers and technicians, gradually taking on more responsibility as your confidence grows. From early design ideas through to detailed drawings and construction support, you'll see how engineering decisions shape projects on the ground.

What you'll be doing

• Helping to prepare civil engineering designs, calculations, drawings and technical reports.
• Supporting work on drainage, highways, earthworks and site infrastructure, depending on project needs.
• Using design software and applying relevant standards under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Reviewing survey information, drawings and other project data to help develop practical solutions.
• Working with colleagues across different disciplines and contributing to project meetings.
• Visiting sites to understand construction methods, constraints and progress.
• Learning how to balance technical requirements, buildability, programme and cost.
• Taking an active role in your professional development and working towards chartership.

What you'll bring
