Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer in Wigan to assist senior engineers in delivering civil infrastructure designs from concept to construction. You will gain hands-on project experience and work toward chartership in a supportive consultancy environment.

The role offers structured training, mentoring from experienced engineers, and exposure to highways, drainage, and development projects across the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (BEng or MEng) or equivalent.
• Genuine interest in infrastructure and development projects.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Proactive and positive attitude.
• Basic knowledge of design standards (e.g. DMRB, SDA, or similar).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or civil design software (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Assist with design of highways, drainage and infrastructure schemes.
• Produce calculations, drawings and technical reports.
• Support site investigations and attend site visits when required.
• Liaise with internal teams, clients, contractors and local authorities.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and regulations.

Graduate Civil Engineer

We are a well-established civil and structural engineering consultancy based in Wigan, working across a diverse range of infrastructure, development, and regeneration projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, we are looking to appoint a Graduate Civil Engineer to join our friendly and collaborative team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated graduate looking to develop their technical skills, gain hands-on project experience, and work towards professional chartership within a supportive consultancy environment.

The Role

As a Graduate Civil Engineer, you will work closely with senior engineers and project managers, supporting the delivery of civil engineering designs from concept through to construction. You will be involved in a wide variety of projects, gaining exposure to both technical and client-facing aspects of consultancy work.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the design of highways, drainage, and infrastructure schemes
• Producing calculations, drawings, and technical reports
• Supporting site investigations and attending site visits when required
• Liaising with internal teams, clients, contractors, and local authorities
• Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards and regulations
• Supporting senior engineers with project delivery and coordination
