Job summary

York-based graduate engineer role with COWI, focusing on bridge structures across the UK. You’ll work on iconic projects from concept to detailed design, supported by experienced engineers toward Chartership and a tailored development plan.

Ideal candidates hold a civil/structural degree, show a genuine Chartered Engineer ambition, and have some hands-on engineering exposure. The role offers hybrid working in the UK and extensive professional development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil/Structural Eng, completed or due this summer.
Genuine interest in becoming a Chartered Engineer and commitment to achieve it.
Some practical engineering experience from placements, year-in-industry, or project work.
Familiarity with UK design standards and Eurocodes related to bridges.
Understanding of CDM Regulations and designers’ duties.

Responsibilities

Produce structural designs, assessments and evaluations for bridge projects from concept to detailed design.
Prepare calculations, technical reports and specs aligned with codes and standards.
Review calculations and drawings, develop attention to detail and accuracy.
Perform engineering tasks: interpret data, analyze structures, develop calculation methods.
Plan workload with project manager and report progress against budget and schedule.
Attend site visits and represent the team in client meetings and design reviews.
