Job description

For a quarter of a century, the Jellycat family have brought joy, wonder and playful fun to people of all ages, in every part of the world. Utterly original and in a class of their own, they are currently among the most loved and collected toys of their kind. How has this gentle tribe endeared themselves to so many? Perhaps it is their whimsical expressions. Or the deliciously soft fabrics. Or the beautiful way in which they sit in your hand. Whatever it is, there is something magical and unmistakeable about each one of them.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-focused Global Customs Compliance Manager to oversee and manage Customs matters and compliance across our global supply chain. This newly created role reports to the Global Head of Transport in our Logistics team and involves working closely in collaboration with our Finance and Global Tax teams.

This role is critical in ensuring compliance with inter nation trade obligations, safeguarding our operations against compliance risks, and ensuring accurate duty payments through appropriate documentation and classification.

You'll be;

  • Managing and overseeing all customs operations, including reviewing and validating import and export documentation to ensure accuracy and full compliance with local and international customs regulations.
  • Assigning and maintaining accurate HS codes and tariff classifications for all products, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements.
  • Overseeing customs duty valuations and ensuring country of origin declarations are accurate and compliant with local requirements - supporting duty payments and preferential tariffs.
  • Monitoring changes to customs laws and procedures across key markets, including UK, EU, and US, ensuring timely updates to internal processes and communicating this to key stakeholders across the business.
  • Overseeing customs special procedures, such as Customs Warehousing, ensuring proper usage, record-keeping, and reconciliation.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for customs authorities, customs brokers, and third-party providers to support operational compliance and issue resolution. Working in conjunction with the Global Tax team to respond to customs and tax authority notices and audits.
  • Leading internal and external audits with 3rd party providers to identify compliance risks and optimisation opportunities.
  • Supporting the Global Tax team with input and implementation of customs controls and processes to support and build on our global tax strategy.
  • Advising and training internal departments on customs-related matters, including regulatory changes, documentation requirements, and SOP.
  • Co-ordinating with Operations, Supply Chain and Logistics teams to ensure smooth cross border movement of goods, minimising customs delays and improving lead times through proactive planning and customs documentation readiness across supplier countries and wholesale customers.
  • Managing the implementation and continuous improvement of customs compliance systems and tools, ensuring data and automation of key compliance processes, such as HS code assignment, origin tracking, and duty calculations across all relevant authorities.

You'll have;

  • Aproven experience in global customs / international trade compliance (minimum 5 years), preferably in the retail sector.
  • Strong knowledge of HS classification, product valuation methods, preferential trade agreements, and duty calculations.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally, with an accurate eye for detail.
  • Degree / qualification / certification in Customs Compliance or International Trade is a plus.
