Job summary

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Consultant in Ophthalmology with a special interest in Glaucoma. You will provide high-quality ophthalmic care within a busy department, collaborating with specialists and nursing staff at the Alhambra Outpatients Department.

The role includes general ophthalmology duties, teaching, and governance with an on-call requirement: one night weekly and periodic weekends. 1.0 WTE, with potential part-time options, in Barnsley, UK.

Qualifications

• FRCOphth or equivalent and GMC registration essential.
• Registered on the specialist register or within 6 months of CSST at interview.
• MD or equivalent higher degree and evidence of medical audit experience.
• Completion of at least one audit project; willingness to organise related audits.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical ophthalmology services including glaucoma and general ophthalmology.
• Lead and supervise ophthalmology trainees; work with multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to governance, teaching, and service development.
• On-call as described (one night weekly and weekends).

Education

FRCOphth or equivalent

MD or equivalent Higher Degree

Full GMC registration

Evidence of audit experience

Completion of at least one audit project

Willingness to organise relevant audit activities
