James Gray Recruitment is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer (2–5 years) to join a leading Scottish engineering consultancy in Glasgow. You will deliver site investigations, foundation design and ground engineering for infrastructure, residential and commercial projects.

The role blends technical design with site work, offering a pathway toward Chartered status (CGeol/ICE). Hybrid working (2–3 days in office/site, rest from home) and a competitive £35,000–£40,000 salary with benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or closely related field.
• 2–5 years of practical UK-based consultancy or contractor experience.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (Oasys, Slope/W, gINT) and Eurocode 7.
• CSCS & CAT experience for site activities.
• Full UK driving licence required for site visits.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise ground investigations and logging to BS 5930 standards.
• Perform geotechnical designs including foundations, retaining walls and slope stability.
• Prepare interpretative geotechnical and geo-environmental reports, desk studies and risk assessments.
• Support projects with financial tracking, subcontractor coordination, and client liaison.
• Ensure site operations comply with health, safety and environmental regulations.

We are looking for a motivated Geotechnical Engineer with 2 to 5 years of experience to join our clients growing engineering team in Scotland.

You will play a key role in delivering high-quality site investigations, foundation designs, and ground engineering solutions for a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, residential, and commercial projects.

This role offers an excellent balance of technical design work and site-based operations, providing a direct pathway toward achieving Chartered status (CGeol/ICE).

Key Responsibilities

• Site Investigations: Manage and supervise ground investigations, including logging soil and rock to BS 5930 standards.
• Technical Design: Undertake geotechnical designs, including shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, and earthworks.
• Reporting: Prepare interpretative geotechnical and geo-environmental reports, desk studies, and risk assessments.
• Project Support: Assist Project Managers with financial tracking, subcontractor management, and client liaison.
• Safety First: Ensure all site operations strictly adhere to health, safety, and environmental regulations.

What We Are Looking For

• Education: A degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience: 2 to 5 years of practical experience within a UK-based engineering consultancy or contractor.
• Skills: Proficient in geotechnical software (such as Oasys, Slope/W, or gINT) and a strong understanding of Eurocode 7. CSCS & Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) experience.
• Driving Licence: A full, UK driving licence is essential for site visits.
• Ambition: A desire to progress toward Chartership, with prior experience supervising ground investigations considered highly advantageous.
