Job description

The Acute Medicine Therapy Team at the Royal Derby Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join the team. The role involves working closely with Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and other Support Workers to provide treatment to patients across various departments, including Respiratory and High Dependency Units, Cardiology, Endocrine and Diabetes, and Gastro/Hepatology.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of qualified Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff, assisting with patient treatments such as activities of daily living, mobility, and respiratory exercises. Non-clinical duties, including clerical and housekeeping tasks, will also be part of the role to support departmental efficiency.

We are looking for an excellent communicator, team player, with a basic working knowledge of IT packages. Recent experience in a hospital or community setting and moving and handling patients are essential.

Your responsibilities include assisting with functional activities of daily living, supervising exercises, preparing patients for treatment, and supporting increased independence using daily living aids. You should be able to recognize when to refer back to Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists, identify contraindications, and communicate effectively with patients to gain informed consent. You must also maintain accurate treatment notes in line with legal and departmental requirements.
