Immersive Gamebox in London is seeking a Generalist Experience Designer to join a small, permanent team focused on player experience. You’ll watch players in venues, prototype with AI, and build new content such as 10-minute games.
You’ll shape the overall journey from in-engine prototyping to live venue implementation, impacting the way groups engage and return to our experiences.
Generalist Experience Designer
Location: Southbank, London (Hybrid working)
Reporting to: Head of Studio & Player Experience | Salary: £45-55k | Permanent, full-time
Start: ASAP
Immersive Gamebox (IGB) is a fast-scaling location-based entertainment company redefining how people play together in the real world. We create immersive, social gaming experiences powered by proprietary technology and world-class content, partnering with major studios like Netflix, Sony, and Paramount to bring globally loved IP to life.
With 35+ locations across the UK, US, and internationally (and 100+ more opening by the end of 2027), 2M+ players, and backing from tier-1 investors, our ambition is to become the world's leading immersive entertainment platform, with 500+ locations globally and experiences across film, TV, sport and music.
To date, we have:
Raised $60m+ from top investors across the UK & US
Welcomed over 2M players with 60,000+ 5* reviews, average rating 4.9/5
Launched major IP titles including Squid Game, Batman, Ghostbusters and Angry Birds, with major titles in the pipeline
For six years we've done one thing very well: launch big games. Squid Game, Batman, Ghostbusters and more, played by millions of people in our rooms. What we've never done is go back and make the games already live even better.
That's the opportunity. We want to turn a great one-off night out into something people come back to again and again, with player profiles, levels and real engagement. No one else has a platform like ours, with groups playing in our rooms every day, and you'll have a lot of freedom to decide what changes, with the scale to see the impact quickly.
We're building a small, permanent team of two whose whole job is player experience. You'll watch people play in the box, spot what isn't working, prototype the fixes yourself and add new content such as 10-minute games.
As our Generalist Experience Designer, you'll improve our existing library and the wider player experience end to end. From AI-assisted, rapid prototyping, to clean, in-engine implementation and thorough QA. We’re looking for a Swiss Army Knife, someone who has a strong sense in best practices across shared scenes and systems, UX/UI, system-design and balancing for a diverse audience and range of abilities.
Monthly improvements live across the library: levels, scoring, difficulty and shared scenes
Customer satisfaction and return rate trending up on the games you've touched
An AI-assisted workflow that takes an idea from note to playable prototype in days
New short-format games designed and live in venues
The first player profiles, levels and rewards live, giving groups a reason to come back
Reports to the Head of Studio & Player Experience and works day to day with our Lead Unity Developer. You'll also support the sub-teams working on new games with gameplay and creative input, but you won't take on launch production or agency management.
Watch and learn: spend regular time in our venues watching groups play
Fix the game: rework levels, scoring and difficulty curves in Unity
Improve the journey: shared scenes and UX across the library
Prototype at speed: use AI tools for art, assets, prototypes and polish
Create new content: design and build short-format games, such as 10-minute games
Design for return visits: player profiles, levels and rewards that bring groups back
Own the extras: drinks menus, tutorials, leaderboards and onboarding, from idea to live in venue
Raise the bar: know what good looks like across all of the above, and apply it system by system to improve the whole player journey
You have range: design, UX, some art, and enough technical skill to prototype it yourself
You use AI tools heavily and well, and can show how they speed up your work
You think in terms of player behaviour and numbers, not just ideas
You're happy owning a brief end to end in a small team
A portfolio of shipped work (games, experiences or interactive products) that shows what you did
Working knowledge of Unity: enough to edit and improve existing scenes in-engine
Experience in level design, scoring and difficulty, or systems design
Regular, practical use of AI tools in art, prototyping or production, with examples
Right to work in the UK
Immersive, location-based, VR/AR, escape-room or installation experience
2D/3D art skills; C# scripting
Sound design
Playtesting or analytics experience
Real players, every day: test your ideas with real groups in our venues
Freedom and impact: our live games have never been revisited, so you'll help decide what changes first and see the results within weeks
Breadth: design, UX, art and prototyping, in one role
Focus: a permanent role on player experience, not tied to launch deadlines
Salary: £45-55k (depending on experience)
Unlimited holiday
Workplace pension
Hybrid working: our Southbank office plus time in our venues
30 min screening call
30 min second stage
Case study and final stage: an open brief based on one of our games. Show us how you'd approach it, then walk us through your thinking on-site and visit a venue with the team
