Torbay And South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a clinician to support the Community Urgent Care UTC at Newton Abbot and satellite minor injuries units. The role involves assessing minor presentations, providing urgent care, and initiating initial management as needed.
You will act as a source of clinical advice for multi-professional colleagues, coordinate UTC flow during shifts, and ensure safe handover and governance.
The role will require colleagues to provide care for those with more minor presentations, use appropriate urgent care tests, assess patients that may or may not require secondary care referral and to instigate initial management for these patients when required.
Community urgent care covers the Urgent Treatment Centre at Newton Abbot and satellite minor injuries units, and therefore the role is not site specific.
You will be a source of clinical advice /guidance for multi-professional colleagues.
The role will coordinate the flow of the UTC throughout the shift, liaising with the Emergency department and with management/operational colleagues.
You will ensure safe and effective handover of care for patients within the UTC.
The role will contribute to clinical governance processes.
You will provide clinical supervision to allied health professionals/junior colleagues.
You will demonstrate that you are a dynamic and assertive clinical leader, focussed on driving high standards of patient care and experience.

There are minor injuries units at Dawlish and Totnes which are supported by Practitioners.
The UTC at Newton Abbot is a busy environment, that supports the local population and sees a wide variety of patients of all ages with minor injuries and illnesses. The average attendance is 105 attendances per day.
The service runs on booked appointments with provision for walk-in attendances.
A GP clinical lead is in post; alongside an Advanced Clinical Practice Lead They provide clinical support to a multidisciplinary team of practitioners. The team provide care across the Community urgent care footprint, using Newton Abbot UTC as a base.
