Job summary

Kingston Hospital is seeking an experienced Emergency Practitioner to lead autonomous assessment, diagnosis and treatment in the Urgent Treatment Centre at Teddington Memorial Hospital. You’ll deliver high-quality patient-centred care across ages, with a focus on rapid decision-making and leadership within the UTC team.

The role offers a 12-month fixed term, full or part-time hours (37.5 per week 08:00–20:00) and will involve cross-site working with the Kingston Hospital UTC service.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse/paramedic with UK registration.
  • Emergency/Accident and Emergency course or equivalent.
  • Physical assessment, minor injuries/illness, IRMER qualification.
  • NMP qualification or XR interpretation red dot day or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Autonomously assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and care for patients at the Urgent Treatment Centre.
  • Lead by example, aligning care with the Trust's core values.
  • Identify the need for essential diagnostic tests and interpret results (including lab and radiography).
  • Mentor and supervise trainee UCPs and provide line management when required.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure evidence-based care and participate in quality improvement.

Are you ready to take the lead in autonomously assessing, investigating, diagnosing, treating, and expertly caring for patients at the Urgent Treatment Centre?

If yes, join our collaborative UTC team, where you'll actively contribute to meeting patients' diverse needs, championing the seamless delivery of policies and procedures, and providing invaluable nurse leadership when it matters most. As the post holder, you'll engage in comprehensive assessment, treatment, care, and education for patients of all ages, ensuring a high-quality patient-centred service.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an experienced staff group at Richmond Urgent Treatment Centre who will help develop and grow this already high performing service.

This post will also offer the exciting opportunity for cross site working with our partner UTC based at Kingston Hospital.

Main duties of the job

As the post holder, you'll embark on a journey of autonomous practice, consistently delivering high-quality, timely, and patient-centred care that makes a real difference.

Your will lead by example, making sure that every moment of care, aligns with our Trust's core values.

In addition, your sharp expertise will shine as you identify the need for essential diagnostic tests and expertly interpret their results, including laboratory and radiography investigations.

But that's not all! You'll also play a pivotal role in mentoring and supervising trainee UCPs, offering support and dynamic line management when required.

Collaboration is at the heart of your role, working seamlessly with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure our care practices are evidence-based and continuously pushing the boundaries of excellence through innovative quality improvement programs.

Qualifications

Experience
  • Experience in autonomous practice, diagnosis and management of minor illness and injuries
  • Paediatric safeguarding, experience with paediatric patients > 1 year old

  • Clear understanding of acute performance targets and ability to identifying opportunities to improve service delivery
  • Assessment skills, Resuscitation skills and Triage competent
Knowledge
  • In depth understanding of local and national issues relating to Urgent Treatment Centre.
  • Up to date knowledge of DH and NICE guidance
