Making a difference behind every patient journey

Are you someone who enjoys helping others, takes pride in providing excellent customer service, and thrives in a busy environment? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable and motivated General Porters to join our Facilities & Logistics Team. Porters play a vital role in supporting the smooth running of the hospital, ensuring patients, staff and departments receive the assistance they need every day.

As a General Porter you will safely transport patients, medical equipment, specimens, clinical supplies, furniture and essential items across the hospital. You will work closely with clinical teams, responding promptly to requests while providing a professional, courteous and compassionate service.

The role is physically active and requires excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Full training will be provided, so previous portering experience is not essential.

In return, we offer a supportive team environment, opportunities for training and development, NHS pension, generous annual leave and access to a range of staff wellbeing benefits.

If you are dependable, caring and committed to making every interaction count, we would love you to become part of our team.We have a number of opportunities we are recruiting to, including permanent and 12 month fixed term roles.

Main duties of the job

What you’ll do in the role

  • Safely transporting patients throughout the hospital
  • Delivering equipment, supplies, and mail to departments
  • Supporting clinical and non-clinical teams

With experience, you could move into a specialist porter role with more responsibility and working in a particular department. You could also work towards becoming a team leader, supervising the work of other porters. With further experience and training, you could become a manager, responsible for portering and other services across our Trust.

You will provide an efficient and effective Trust Wide Portering service to meet the demands of a busy Acute Hospital. A Porter will undertake a range of duties across the Trust in all departments as and when required.

You will ensure good working relationships with all stakeholders, staff, visitors, and patients.

You will work in a self-motivated and professional manner at all times and work well with all disciplines of staff and may be required on occasions to take direction from other professional staff.

Every improvement we make across our Group will be guided by what creates the greatest benefit for our colleagues, our patients, our communities and our partners.

By working together, we make a real difference for our patients, each other, and our community. Every role matters in delivering the exceptional, person‑centred care we’re proud of.
