The Port of Cromarty Firth located in Invergordon is seeking a General Operative on a fixed-term basis. The role covers facilities operations and maintenance with a 4 days on/4 days off shift pattern and on-call duties.

You will work across marine and quayside operations, supporting crews and coordinating facility users in a safe, multi-skilled environment. Driving duties and on-site maintenance are involved.

Qualifications

  • Full UK driving Licence.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Valid Medical – ENG1/ML5 (desirable).
  • A positive attitude & good work ethic.
  • Previous work in similar role.
  • A genuine desire to learn & develop.

Responsibilities

  • Facilities Operations & Maintenance duties under supervision.
  • Monitor safe areas and assist with coordination of facility users.
  • Support cruise function including welcoming passengers and quayside logistics.
  • Prepare quaysides for vessel arrivals and assist with maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with surface and infrastructure repairs to quaysides, roads and walkways.
  • Assist with mooring, supply of fresh water and fuel to vessels.
  • Drive company vehicles and operate plant as required.
  • Participate in on-call rota and emergency response.
  • Support operations as required by Facilities Operations Coordinator.

We are looking for a General Operative to join our team on a fixed term basis. Based in Invergordon, the successful candidate will work primarily within the facilities department on a 4 days on-4 days off rotation, within a dynamic, multi-skilled role with progressive opportunities to support quayside coordination. The General operative role is key to the continued success of wider Port Operations with opportunity to work across marine and quayside operations, gaining valuable experience, development opportunity and collaborating with colleagues in a safe and supportive work environment.

Key responsibilities:

Facilities Operations & Maintenance

  • Reporting to the Facilities Operations Coordinator or Deputy Facilities Operations Manager whilst acting as Relief Facilities Operations Coordinator
  • Monitoring safe areas and assisting with coordination of Facility Users
  • Assist with the cruise function; support operations including welcoming passengers, quayside logistics, health, safety, security, environment, and emergency response
  • To prepare quaysides for vessel arrivals
  • To assist with port facility maintenance duties (e.g. building painting, keeping facilities clean, clear etc.)
  • To assist with surface and infrastructure repairs to quaysides, roadways, and pedestrian walkways
  • Assist with manual handling; erection and dismantling of Heras fencing or similar boundary structures
  • Driving company vehicles and operating plant
  • Assist with core duties i.e. mooring of vessels and rigs
  • Assist with supply of fresh water and fuel to vessels
  • Winter & grounds maintenance – Snow clearing, gritting, grass cutting, weeding etc.
  • Provide operational assistance to the Facilities Operations Coordinator, as required
  • To support operations as Relief Facilities Operations Coordinator, as required
  • To participate in the operations out-of-hours on call rota, & emergency response as required
  • Assist marine crew operations, including Deckhand duties on the pilot vessels
  • Available to undertake regular safety related and statutory training and exercises
  • Other duties as required to meet the needs of the business
Desirable Experience & Attribute Requirements:
  1. Full UK driving Licence

Work arrangements:

Monday – Friday, 0700-1530, flexible work arrangements to suit business needs, including cruise mooring requirements & routine on-call as required.
