Job description

This business provides a tailored logistics service worldwide, including air, ocean, and road.

The General Manager will provide strategic leadership on site to achieve operational excellence through all aspects of our people, financials, operations, and processes, enabling an efficient and cost-effective service from the Stoke site.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Full financial responsibility for the site.
2. Manage all site performance, ensuring the operation runs effectively and efficiently.
3. Promote and implement a continuous improvement program to maintain a competitive service level in the marketplace.
4. Liaise with central functions such as HR, Finance, European Operations, and Transport to coordinate operational activities and achieve site KPIs and targets.
5. Collaborate with the Head of UK Transport for fleet renewals.
6. Ensure services are provided within budget; develop and implement action plans to improve operational efficiencies.
7. Maintain and enhance service levels for the European Operations team.
8. Partner with peers and key contacts across the company—including Transport, Supply, Sales, Finance, Customer Services, and Customers—to ensure smooth merchandise flow and resolve issues hindering target achievement.
9. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and standards, fostering a positive safety culture.
10. Meet all legal, insurance, and risk management requirements; maintain equipment properly.
11. Participate in operational meetings and provide managers with accurate, relevant updates to facilitate effective decision-making.

Required Experience & Skills:

1. Proven track record managing a multi-user site encompassing fulfillment, cross-dock, and transportation operations.
2. Experience and knowledge in managing and operating transportation systems.
3. Awareness of modern warehouse management systems.
4. Ability to promote and manage change effectively.
5. Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
