General Manager

Stoke on Trent

This business provides tailored logistics services worldwide, including air, ocean, and road.

The General Manager will provide strategic leadership on site to achieve operational excellence through all aspects of our people, financials, operations, and processes to enable an efficient and cost-effective service from the Stoke site.

• Full financial responsibility for the site.
• Manage all site performance, ensuring the operation runs effectively and efficiently.
• Promote and implement a continuous improvement program to maintain service levels and a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
• Liaise with central functions—such as HR, Finance, European Operations, and Transport—to ensure operational activities are coordinated in achieving site KPIs and targets.
• Work in partnership with the Head of UK Transport for fleet renewals.
• Ensure services are provided within budget and develop and implement action plans to improve operational efficiencies.
• Maintain and enhance service levels for the European Operations team.
• Partner with peers and other key contacts throughout the company—Transport, Supply, Sales, Finance, Customer Services, and Customers—to ensure the successful flow of merchandise and resolve issues that may hinder the departments' achievement of planned targets.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and standards.
• Ensure all legal, insurance, and risk management requirements are met, and equipment is maintained properly.
• Participate in operational meetings and update managers with accurate, relevant information to enable effective decision-making.

Required Experience & Skills

• A proven track record in managing a closed-book, multi-user site encompassing fulfillment, cross-dock, and transportation.
• Experience and knowledge of managing and operating transportation.
• Awareness of modern warehouse management systems.
• Ability to promote and manage change.
• An effective influencer and negotiator.
